Acupuncture for
Upper Extremity Pain | Shoulder, Elbow & Wrist
Reclaim your full range of motion and live without arm, hand, or shoulder restrictions.
Unlike your lower body, which supports your weight, your upper extremities
are designed for precise tracking, reaching, and gripping.
At Díaz Acupuncture & Integrative Health, we use targeted protocols
to reduce deep tissue strain, calm localized tendon irritation,
and help you use your arms and hands comfortably again.
Upper Extremity Conditions We Treat
We address the root muscle imbalances, joint friction, and soft tissue irritation holding your arms back to treat:
Shoulder Pain | Focused care for Rotator Cuff Tears, Rotator Cuff Impingement, Bicep Tendinitis, and Labral Tears.
Elbow Pain | Targeted relief for Tennis Elbow (lateral epicondylitis) and Golfer's Elbow (medial epicondylitis).
Wrist & Hand Pain | Support for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, repetitive strain injuries, deep joint stiffness, and local discomfort.
How Upper Extremity Pain Happens
Your shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints work together as a dynamic team. Because they are highly interconnected, a restriction in your shoulder can force your arm to move awkwardly, placing extra strain on your elbow or wrist and creating a chain reaction of pain.
Upper extremity pain typically develops through a few common mechanical issues:
Rotator Cuff & Shoulder Impingement | Your shoulder is a shallow ball-and-socket joint that relies entirely on a small group of muscles and tendons (the rotator cuff) for stability. Heavy lifting, poor overhead posture, or natural wear can pinch these tendons under the shoulder bone, causing a deep, burning ache and making it painful to raise your arm.
Repetitive Strain & Micro-Tears | Repetitive actions like typing at a computer, swinging a racket, or lifting tools can create microscopic tears in the tendons of your arm. This leads to painful conditions like Tennis Elbow (pain on the outside of the elbow) or Golfer's Elbow (pain on the inside of the elbow).
Joint Stiffness & Nerve Friction | Constant, repetitive movements can cause fluid-filled sacs (bursae) to swell, or lead to tight forearm muscles that compress the delicate median nerve as it travels through the narrow passage in your wrist. This common condition—Carpal Tunnel Syndrome—along with general repetitive strain, results in stubborn hand stiffness, numbness, tingling, and deep localized discomfort.
How Acupuncture Helps Your Shoulders, Elbows & Wrists
Acupuncture helps restore fluid mobility to your upper joints by supporting your body's natural healing responses:
Relieves Deep Muscle Gripping | It signals overactive, tight muscles in your neck, chest, and arms to relax, taking the mechanical strain off your shoulder socket and elbow tendons.
Stimulates Healing in Tough Tendons | Tendons naturally receive a very limited supply of blood, which can slow down their recovery. Acupuncture encourages a fresh rush of nutrient-rich blood flow directly to the irritated tendons to support gradual repair.
Calms Soft Tissue Friction | It helps reduce localized swelling and fluid build-up inside the joints, which eases that deep, grinding feeling and makes daily movements smooth again.
Your Path to Mobility: What to Expect
Because you use your hands and arms constantly throughout the day for everything from working to sleeping, these joints rarely get a true break. While some patients notice a positive shift early in their care, deep rotator cuff tears, chronic elbow tendonitis, or long-standing wrist stiffness are internal injuries that require a progressive series of treatments to allow the tissues to fully adapt and mend.
Our ultimate goal is to help you regain stable, long-term, pain-free function. We will closely track your day-to-day progress and adjust your personalized care plan according to how your body responds over time.
